The Path Forward Campaign

One of the nation’s treasures, The Historic Houston Light Guard Armory, has faced many years of neglect which has caused the building to deteriorate. In its 94-year history, it has also been struck by many hurricanes, tropical storms, and vandalism. Since the Center of African American Military History, dba BSNM, purchased the building, we have made it our mission to renovate, restore, preserve and revitalize this space to its natural condition with a modern touch.

Thanks to all of you for your support throughout the years, and welcome to our new supporters and friends of the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum, housed in the historic 1925 historical Houston Light Guard Armory at 3816 Caroline Street.

Join us in our current campaign to totally restore and preserve the armory, hire more professional museum staff, retire debt of the armory, and establish an endowment to keep the armory looking good for generations to come!

Cathay Williams Society Planned Giving Program

Cathay Williams was the only known female African American Buffalo Soldier. She was the first black woman to be documented for her service in the U.S. Army before women were officially allowed to enlist.

Including the CAAMH dba BSNM in your plans will enable us to continue to advance the mission of our institution and provide historical resources for years to come. Your future gift would go to support operations, youth programming, exhibitions, collections and archives.

There are many ways to make a planned gift to the CAAMH dba BSNM that will provide benefits to you and the Museum, including:

  • Naming the Museum in a will or estate plan.
  • Designating life insurance proceeds or donating an insurance policy.
  • Making the Museum a beneficiary of your retirement plan, IRA, 401(k), 203(b).
  • Establishing a charitable trust with the Museum.
  • Transferring real estate to the Museum through a life estate.
  • Promising a gift of a work (or works) of art that the Museum has agreed to accept.
