Call for Scripts

Scriptwriters-Houston (SWH), in collaboration with the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum present theatrical works inspired by the various exhibits at the museum. There will be five 10-minute plays performed at the museum on Saturday, February 22, 2025.

Rules & Guidelines for Scriptwriters-Houston (SWH) Museum Play Script Submission
1.   Playwright must be in Houston or within a 100-mile radius of Houston.
2.   Scripts should be loosely based on the museum’s exhibits and must be original new works. The exhibits should not be moved, rearranged or touched in any way. Readings are strongly suggested before submission.
3.   Scripts must be 8-10 minutes in performance length using the standard 1 minute per page format. Significantly under or over length will be excluded from judging.
4.   Scripts must be producible with the use of few technical requirements, set and props. 
5.   Scripts must contain 2-4 actors. Monologues are not accepted. Actors can portray more than one character.
6.   Scripts must be complete and not part of a larger piece.
7.   There is no script submission fee to paid SWH members. Non-members may submit up to three (3) scripts at $10 (non-refundable) per script. Up to (3) scripts are allowed for both members and non-members. If more than one script is chosen by the evaluators for either member or non-member, only one will be produced.
8.   By submission, playwrights agree to allow their works to be produced by SWH at Buffalo Soldiers Museum on February 22, 2025.
10. Script evaluators’ decisions are final.
11.  SWH may make a recording of the event for publicity and archival purposes but it will not be sold.

Submission Format for Ten-Minute Play
a)      EMAIL ONLY to scriptwriters.houston@gmail.com with the Subject: SWH Buffalo Soldiers Museum 2025 Script Entry
b)      Playwright’s Name, Address, Phone Number, email, title and copyright information of the play should be in the body of the email only, not inside 

         the script.  The submission must be in PDF or Word format.  Do not send any links to access your document, as they will be disqualified.
c)      Page number and the title should be in the footnote on each page of the script. Do not include the playwright’s name in the script.
d)      Include the following statement:

            “I have read and understand the submission rules, guidelines, and deadline.  I accept the terms of submitting my work to the Scriptwriters-

            Houston 2025 Museum Plays.  I also give permission to Scriptwriters-Houston to make a recording of my stage play as produced by 

            Scriptwriters-Houston, and I grant to Scriptwriters-Houston license to use that recording to promote Scriptwriters-Houston, by way of public/ 

            electronic media, including but not limited to YouTube, Facebook, email attachment, or by way of a television, film, or radio broadcast or podcast.

e)      Play may be written in whatever format the writer chooses.  You are encouraged to follow the format of Dramatists Guild or one of the publishing houses, such as Dramatists Publishing.
