Status: Part-Time/Hourly (must be flexible to work evenings, nights and weekends)
Pay Range: $15-$20/hr
About the Position:
The Special Events Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, organizing and producing on-site events for organizations and individuals who rent space at BSNM, in addition to institutional programming and special events. The Special Events Coordinator provides excellent customer service and serves as one of the main points of contact with members, partners and the diverse communities we serve.
As Event Coordinator You Will:
- Coordinate and execute all outside events from inquiry through post event debrief
- Coordinate and produce on-site programming, meetings and special events with appropriate supervisors and department leads
- Responsible for set up and break down of space, including vendors, staffing and technology, including load in and load outs
- Supervise the catering room and equipment used during the event
- Maintain inventory for onsite and offsite programming, meetings and special events
- Maximize event layout accuracy from planning to execution
- Maintain and enforce museum regulations regarding protection of assets, cleanliness of space and upholding of brand standards
- Prepare and present event inquiries to the BSNM team prior to confirmation
- Ensure all services and necessary preparations are in order including coordinating client service needs
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with BSNM contractors and event service suppliers and subcontractors
- Maintain and update internal and external event calendars of events
- Coordinate with maintenance and security on overall event from confirmation through conclusion
- Perform other museum events related duties as assigned
What You Bring
- Experience in hospitality, event planning, logistics, customer service and community engagement
- Experience working with diverse and intergenerational communities
- Computer proficiency experience with online databases (google drive, blackbaud), virtual meeting platforms, website and social media, and MS office is required

The Buffalo Soldiers National Museum seeks a Director of Development to create and execute a plan to identify and cultivate the necessary individual, corporate, and foundation support to fund the work of the museum.
Why Now
The BSNM has launched the $13 million Ready & Forward capital campaign supported by a consulting team to repair and renovate our museum facility, expand and improve our exhibitions and programming, and ensure our organization’s long-term sustainability. We are seeking a Director of Development to lead the annual operating fundraising and development efforts of the Museum as that campaign proceeds, and to coordinate with the consultants as they carry out the campaign.
We seek a proactive strategist with a passion for results, strong interpersonal skills and the experience to successfully organize, lead and execute a strong fundraising and development plan for this exciting organization.

Key Areas of Responsibility Include:
- Develop a comprehensive plan for donor stewardship that includes appropriate touchpoints and a calendar for achieving consistent and recurring communication with supporters.
- Manage BSNM’s prospect and donor portfolio, through cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of these relationships. Develop and implement an institution-wide donor development action plan
- Assist in the development and implementation strategy to achieve strategic initiatives set forth in annual, capital and endowment campaigns.
- Manage the fundraising and development of special events and additional cultivation activities
- Plan and supervise all electronic and mailed appeals and communications, grant writing and applications, corporate sponsorship proposals, reports to funders, planned giving and other fundraising initiatives
- Ensure the effective organization and maintenance of donor databases
- Create and manage the annual department budget to ensure priority initiatives have adequate resources.
- Operate a comprehensive institutional giving program that includes private and corporate foundations as well as government agencies, from prospect research and development, development and execution of a grant calendar, preparation and submission of all grants and reports with appropriate support from key staff
- Establish a communication plan to keep all parties informed on current fundraising strategies, activities, and results
What You Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in fund development, nonprofit management, philanthropy, business, or related field or seven years’ experience in fundraising and development
- Deep appreciation and understanding of the BSNM mission and the ability to articulate its value and vision internally and externally
- Proven leadership and management capabilities and substantial experience creating and implementing fundraising plans and cultivating donor relationships
- Proven track record of achieving a philanthropic giving target of $1M+ annually
- Significant knowledge and experience in basic fundraising techniques and strategies
- Strong knowledge and familiarity with research techniques and prospect identification
- Proactive and positive, creative problem solver, flexible, team-oriented, with an eye for detail
- Excellent oral, written, analytical and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to manage, evaluate and motivate staff and volunteers
- Marketing and Communication capabilities necessary to support both digital and mailed appeals
