Every November, we recognize Veterans & Military Family Month. Military families lead demanding lives. They must change their family dynamics and roles to compensate for the absence of a service member, frequently relocate for their serving family member(s), which is especially difficult for children to handle, and be sent to posts with unfavorable conditions. Additionally, veterans and service members may struggle with trauma from their time in service. All of these circumstances create a challenging period of life for service members and their families.

If you are a military service member, a member of a military family, or a veteran, you are not alone. Many local and national organizations work tirelessly alongside these communities to ease their burdens. We have compiled these resources to help you with financial and mental health issues, as well as simple gifts. Regardless of if you have a military connection or not, consider donating, volunteering, or contributing to one of these organizations out of the kindness of your heart, as it can make all the difference for those who need it:
- Send care packages to active service members from organizations like Operation Gratitude, Soldiers’ Angels, or USO.
- Support organizations that raise funds for struggling military families, such as the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society or USO.
- Support organizations that assist military service members and veterans, such as the American Red Cross, American Legion Post 654, Blue Star Families, Department of Veterans Affairs, Harris Vets, Healing Conversations, and United Way of Greater Houston.
- Support organizations that assist veterans with food insecurity, such as Combined Arms, Meals for Vets, and Houston Food Bank.
