Buffalo Soldier Youth Outdoor Exploration Program

THE SUMMER 2024 PROGRAM IS FULL AND REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED

For middle and high school students aged 11 to 17, the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department offer an exceptional outdoor exploration program at no cost.

Participants can enjoy camping, hiking, equestrian training, golfing, and visits to historical sites related to the Buffalo Soldiers’ service and battles in Texas. This program is designed to provide Houston youth with an exhilarating, informative, and challenging outdoor learning experience while instilling in them an appreciation for Texas’ natural and cultural resources.

All programs are available to registrants, or they can choose specific ones. Participants will experience outdoor activities and explore local nature. Additionally, they will develop an understanding of the community and gain leadership skills. All activities are supervised by experienced rangers.

Students will also have the opportunity to visit and explore two frontier historical Buffalo Soldier forts. For a small administrative fee, students interested in learning basic golf skills can also join our partner youth golf clinic. Practice clubs and balls are free.
